Learning to Read and Write (2019)

of two places book

Paper, canvas, thread, pencil, charcoal, marker, book, 8x5x4"

This book was created for my 2019 solo show at Beacon Gallery in Boston. Language is a key obstacle for many immigrants, me included. Not only does it serve as a tool for communication, but also a way of understanding a new culture. The pages in this book, written in Hebrew and tells the tale of a family having to move homes, has been fully altered. Each page highlights a word and runs through the alphabet in Hebrew and English, highlighting and expanding on issues of home, identity, longing and belonging - themes that are universal to any immigrant.
